OSRAM LEDriving Cube MX230-CB AMBER EXTREME – four lighting functions in one 9″ LED driving light
The OSRAM LEDriving Cube MX230-CB AMBER EXTREME is an auxiliary Combo-beam LED driving light designed for 4x4 vehicles, pickups, expedition vehicles, commercial vehicles and machinery. It combines an ECE-approved high beam and white position light with an amber position-light signature and a powerful off-road Boost mode.
Key advantages
- 3,100 effective lumens and 280 m at 1 lx in road high-beam mode for focused long-range illumination.
- 10,000 effective lumens and 515 m at 1 lx in Boost mode for demanding off-road use.
- Combo beam pattern for both near-field and far-field lighting.
- Four functions: high beam, white position light, amber position light and Boost.
- IP6K8 and IP6K9K protection classes for demanding automotive environments.
- 12/24 V compatibility with a specified operating range of 10–32 V.
Beam performance and practical use
In its ECE-approved high-beam mode, the light produces 3,100 effective lumens. The beam reaches 280 m at 1 lx and measures 40 m wide at the same level. The Combo optic provides useful illumination of both the distant route and the area closer to the vehicle.
Boost mode increases the effective output to 10,000 lumens, the 1-lux distance to 515 m and the 1-lux width to 72 m. Boost is not ECE-approved for public-road use and must only be used off-road.
Functions and operating modes
| Function | Colour and performance | Permitted use |
|---|
| High beam | White, 6,000 K, 3,100 lm, 280 m at 1 lx | R149-approved function; subject to compliant installation |
| White position light | White, 6,000 K | R148-approved function; installation regulations apply |
| Amber position light | Amber, 1,700 K | Off-road only; not approved for public-road use |
| Boost | White, 6,000 K, 10,000 lm, 515 m at 1 lx | Off-road only; not approved for public-road use |
Approvals and public-road use
The high-beam function is covered by UN ECE R149, while the white position-light function is covered by R148. R10 relates to electromagnetic compatibility and must not be treated as approval of a lighting function. The amber position light and Boost mode are not approved for use on public roads.
The ECE reference number is 25 per lamp. The total reference value of all high-beam units fitted to the vehicle must not exceed 100. The product is sold individually, while a typical road installation on a car requires a correctly positioned pair. Legal road use depends on approval of the selected function, compliant installation and the requirements applying to the vehicle.
Construction and protection
The housing is made from black powder-coated die-cast aluminium, while the lens is polycarbonate. The exact protection classes are IP6K8 and IP6K9K. OSRAM also specifies overheat protection and reverse-polarity protection.
The stated ambient operating range is –40°C to +65°C. The bracket allows ±15° adjustment, and the 600 mm cable terminates in a DT / Deutsch-type connector.
Applications
- 4x4 vehicles, SUVs and pickups,
- expedition vehicles and motorhomes,
- trucks and commercial vehicles,
- agricultural and construction machinery,
- special-purpose vehicles and quads,
- off-road driving requiring additional beam distance and width.

Package contents
The retail package contains one driving light, a user instruction, components for two rear-mounting arrangements, and the specified screws, nuts and washers. A complete wiring harness, relay, fuses and switches are not included in the confirmed package contents.
Installation and electrical accessories
The light is designed for 12/24 V systems and has a stated 10–32 V operating range. OSRAM requires automotive-grade switches, cables and fuses. The installation diagrams show a 10 A fuse for the road circuit and a 30 A fuse for the off-road circuit. Final cable size, control method and relay selection must be matched to the vehicle and to the confirmed power specification of the current product revision.
Frequently asked questions
Is the 10,000-lumen Boost mode road legal?
No. The 10,000-lumen output applies to Boost mode, which is intended exclusively for off-road use.
Which functions are approved for public-road use?
The white high-beam and white position-light functions are ECE-approved. Their legal use still depends on compliant installation and vehicle requirements.
Is the product supplied as one light or a pair?
GTIN/EAN 4062172423144 identifies one light. A typical road installation on a car requires a pair.
Does it work with both 12 V and 24 V systems?
Yes. The nominal voltage is 12/24 V and the stated operating range is 10–32 V.
Is a wiring harness included?
A complete harness, relay, fuses and switches are not included in the confirmed package contents. These components must be selected separately.
What is the current draw?
The available OSRAM documents contain conflicting wattage figures, so one current value cannot be presented as a verified product specification. Electrical components should be selected after the current manufacturer specification has been confirmed.
