What a snorkel does and does not do

A snorkel moves the air intake up to A-pillar height, so the engine draws air from a higher, less dusty spot and is less likely to ingest water during a crossing. A snorkel alone does not waterproof the vehicle. The airbox and every intake joint must be sealed, and the axle and gearbox breathers matter too. Snorkels are specific to model, generation and engine, and sometimes to ABS or non-ABS versions and the mounting side. Exhausts on an off-roader

An exhaust under a 4x4 takes hits from rocks and gets covered in mud. A lift often calls for a tailpipe extension, and on the Jeep Wrangler JK and JL a loop delete is a popular upgrade that tucks the pipe higher. Cat-back systems replace everything behind the catalytic converter, while axle-back systems only replace the section behind the rear axle.
