Ford Ranger Raptor for Expeditions – Process and Key Needs by Szekla4x4.pl

The Ford Ranger Raptor is a vehicle that commands respect even in its stock version – a powerful engine, refined suspension and impressive off-road capabilities make it an excellent base for an overland build. At our Szekla4x4 workshop, we decided to turn it into a true companion for long journeys and off-road adventures. We designed and welded a custom bed rack and equipped the vehicle with a set of accessories that ensure complete independence in the wild.

Expedition Rack – Designed and Welded from Scratch

The first stage of the project was building a structure capable of carrying all the overlanding gear. We designed and welded a steel bed rack entirely in-house. Made from durable steel profiles, it provides high strength while keeping the weight low. Its geometry allows it to easily carry a roof top tent, awning and additional gear such as recovery boards.

After welding, the rack was fully protected and painted to withstand harsh off-road conditions and changing weather.

Roof Top Tent and ARB Awning – Camping Comfort

The key element of the build is the roof top tent mounted on the rack. Thanks to it, the Raptor becomes a mobile home where you can comfortably sleep in all conditions. To this setup, we added an ARB awning with a room extension, creating additional living space – ideal for a field kitchen, dining area, or just a shaded resting spot.

This configuration makes even multi-day expeditions convenient and eliminates the need to search for accommodation.

Wild Camp Shower – in an Upgraded Version

Comfort in travel is equally important. Onboard the Ranger, we installed a 26-liter Wild Camp portable shower, which we modified for even greater usability.

We added a heating element to keep the water warm at all times – regardless of time of day or weather conditions. In addition, the tank pressure is maintained by a portable OSRAM compressor, making the shower feel as comfortable as at home. This upgrade significantly improves comfort on long off-road journeys.

We also mounted a rear shower curtain, providing a private space to use the outdoor shower.

DBS – Dual Battery System

Energy independence is essential for expeditions. That’s why we equipped the Raptor with a DBS system that allows the use of two batteries. This ensures constant power for additional devices such as a fridge, camp lighting, the shower heater, or the compressor.

The DBS system also protects the main starter battery from discharge – a crucial feature when the vehicle must always be ready to drive.

Wild Camp Recovery Boards – Confidence in Rough Terrain

We also integrated dedicated mounts for Wild Camp recovery boards onto the rack. These are a must-have for any off-road vehicle, enabling self-recovery from sand, mud or snow. Thanks to the handy mounts, the boards are always within reach and ready for action.

Ready for Every Adventure

With these modifications, the Ford Ranger Raptor has become a complete overlanding vehicle. The strong custom rack, roof top tent with ARB awning, dual battery system, upgraded heated shower, and practical recovery boards make it ready for any adventure – from short weekend trips to long expeditions into remote regions.
