Engine oil, after passing through lubricated components, flows back into the pan carrying external contaminants and those generated during engine operation. Reintroducing it into circulation without prior purification would increase mechanical wear due to the abrasive action of solid particles. To prevent such engine damage, an oil filter is used - a lubrication system component that captures contaminants smaller than 15-20 μm. The filter should be replaced every approximately 20,000 kilometers or once a year, which usually coincides with the oil change.
