MetalCloak RockSport BLACK 1701 Rear Reservoir Shocks for Ineos Grenadier
RockSport BLACK 1701 is a pair of long-travel rear remote-reservoir shocks engineered by MetalCloak for the Ineos Grenadier. The design combines a 2.5 in aluminium body, an oversized 7/8 in shaft and 8-position compression adjustment for tuning the suspension response to vehicle load and driving conditions.
Key benefits
- 8-position compression adjustment – MetalCloak states that each click adds approximately 15% compression force.
- 10.6 in / approximately 269 mm travel – a long-travel configuration designed for a wide operating range.
- 2.5 in aluminium body – manufactured with a heavy-duty 3/16 in wall and a large internal fluid volume.
- Remote reservoir – increases system volume and supports thermal management during sustained suspension use.
- 7/8 in hardened shaft – induction-hardened to Rockwell C 60+ with a hard-chrome surface.
Compression tuning and valving
A large billet adjustment knob provides eight compression settings. MetalCloak states that each setting adds approximately 15% compression force, allowing the rear suspension to be tuned around payload, terrain and driving requirements.
The shocks use MetalCloak's digressive Parabolic Valving system, developed as part of the company's Game-Changer suspension architecture.
Remote reservoir system
The remote reservoir is connected through a stainless-steel braided, synthetic-lined hydraulic hose rated by the manufacturer for a 3,000 psi working pressure. The additional system volume is intended to improve fluid and heat management during demanding use.
Construction and serviceability
The shock body and reservoir use a HARD Black Anodize finish. The piston receives a Type III hard-anodising process, while selected shock components use a gold-zinc finish. A triple-seal pack helps keep shock fluid in and contaminants out. The removable Bump Cap protects the seal assembly at full compression and provides service access.
Application
- Ineos Grenadier – manufacturer fitment listed as 2022–current.
- Rear axle.
- Off-road and rock-crawling builds.
- Overland and expedition vehicles.
- Suspension systems using MetalCloak True Dual-Rate coils.
MetalCloak describes the shocks as a direct-fit application using Grenadier-specific mounting provisions. Because these are large-body 2.5 in long-travel shocks, full suspension clearance, bump-stop operation, wheel positioning and surrounding components should be checked during installation.

Installation
The manufacturer rates installation difficulty as easy, with no body modification and an estimated installation time of 1–2 hours. Full suspension travel and component clearances should be checked after installation, and MetalCloak recommends professional suspension alignment following suspension modifications.
Approval and road use
No product-specific ECE, TÜV or ABE approval document has been confirmed for part 1701. MetalCloak's current warranty terms classify its products as designed for off-road applications, so this product should not be advertised as road-homologated without additional documentation. Compliance of the completed vehicle modification should be verified for the market in which the vehicle is operated.
